Pond wins award

We have had a very special visit from the Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Terry Matthews and Sarah Wood from the Hawthorn Centre. They came to present Shirley Infant School with first prize in the School Wildlife Garden category of the 2011 Southampton in Bloom competition.

Three Year 2 children, who have been working hard on the pond, received some wildlife themed gifts for the area, including a bird box, basket and bird food and water feeders. On behalf of the school, Sarah Cook accepted a trophy and framed certificate – pop into reception where you will see them proudly on show.

Once again a big thank you to Sarah Cook and all of our friends in the community that have helped create such a fabulous outdoor classroom area for the children. In fact, take a look at some recent pond dipping activities that we got involved in during Science Week.
