Arts Week

At the beginning of July it was Arts Week at Shirley Infants and the theme was ‘Around the World’.  Mrs Hearne, Mrs Elliott and Mrs Clarke had been busy making arrangements for activities for the children to engage in.  An artist, Isobel Jones, in a creative partnership with The Nuffield Theatre, has been working with Year 2 children to make a life sized sculpture of a baby elephant.  It was fascinating to watch it take shape over a few days using willow, glue and tissue paper.

On Tuesday a dancer from Arts Asia visited us and the children learnt a Bollywood Dance.  They learnt the moves superbly and had lots of fun!  Some parents also had the opportunity to learn the dance which was performed at The Summer Fair.

Hand to Mouth Theatre Company entertained the children with a magical show ‘ Jack and The Beanstalk Café’ using puppets and music.

On Friday Miranda led music lessons based on the ‘Around the world theme’, and  in classes children have been exploring art and crafts from different countries - YR Australia, Y1 India, Y2 Africa.  We hope many of you were able to join us to look at the work the children had done at The Art Gallery held in school.
