Sport Funding

PE and sport premium for primary schools

The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

It was set up in 2013 to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The government provided an additional £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2015. The success of the PE and sport premium has led the government to extending their pledge and providing additional funding until 2020. This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, is being allocated to primary schools. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Shirley Infant School we have developed an action plan in order to continue to improve PE provision and raise achievement for all pupils in sport. Our ethos means that the funding for 2017-2018 will:

· Ensure that all pupils have the best opportunity to achieve their potential.

· Ensure that all pupils know about the Olympic values and it's legacy.

· Ensure that all pupils receive high quality teaching in all aspects of PE and Games.

· Support staff development through CPD opportunities to deliver high quality PE provision.

· Ensure all pupils are provided with a range of extracurricular and enrichment activities.

· Continue to increase levels of participation in physical activity through internal and external competitions within our Academy Partnerships.

· Develop competitions within the school, ensuring that all pupils experience competition and /or sporting festivals and are challenged to improve their own performance in a range of sports and outdoor pursuits.

· Ensure that all pupils have a good understanding of what a healthy life style looks like and how to develop healthy life styles and behaviours for life (This is also embedded within our Science and PSHE curriculums).
