Year R Curriculum

During Year R our pupils learn through our integrated, play based curriculum which encompasses teacher directed and child initiated tasks.  We teach the children to become independent learners who are able to reflect on what they have learnt and identify ways to move their learning forward. Children have the opportunity to guide their own learning throughout the daily timetable where they have access to a stimulating continuous provision within our environment both indoors and outdoors. During this time teachers observe children practising and consolidating previously learnt skills and encourage them to find ways to overcome any problems they come across.  The Characteristics of effective learning are embedded throughout our daily timetable and these observations support the overall assessment of each child.

MOOT (Manage Our Own Time) sessions in which children choose their own learning covering all seven areas of learning are also an important feature of Year R provision in our school.  MOOT enables our children to explore and solve problems for themselves through enquiry and social interactions.  This time allows children's independence and confidence skills to develop and grow.
