Starting School - September 2022

Admission in September 2022

The closing date for September 2022 admissions for Year R has now closed.  If you have missed this deadline please make a late application to the local Authority.  If you need support with this please contact our admission and attendance lead Richard Lomath.

We are now working on our transition activities to support your child settling into school.  You should have already received our welcome letter and the dates for some of these events.  If you have not received this via email please contact the school office on: office@shirleyschools.co.uk.  We work so closely with our pre-school settings, and we have already started our visits.  We believe that in order for children to settle into school feeling happy and safe, a strong transition is required.  Your little one will gently be prepared for school by our offer and ethos.  We will make contact with all of your pre-schools to collect the information on your little ones once they have been allocated a place at our school.  We underpin our transition into school with the Southampton Local.  Click here for the transition principles

Please do use the virtual tour so all of your family can view the school if you are making a decision about the best setting fo your child.  Please be reassured that if you choose us, and you have a place with us, we offer a very well established transition where your little one will get to visit us lots before they start.

In the meantime we would love for you to take our virtual tour around the school to get a feel of our environment and setting.  This current tour is still set up for COVID regulations, and we are delighted to say under the July DFE guidance we are now able to set up our classrooms to pre COVID.  We hope to have an updated virtual tour soon (due to complication this has been delayed).  Please take a moment to watch our head teacher Mrs Gregory's welcome from this page too.

We have loaded our frequently asked question page.  If you have a question that you feel we have not answered please do email it into: office@shirleyschools.co.uk

Finally, a very warm welcome to you all from the Shirley Infant Team.

The closing date for applications for Year R (infant/primary) is 15 January 2022 at 23:59

We understand the current situation is still very daunting, and you will have lots of questions about how your child will be able to visit school and their class teachers in the future.  We are working on the assumption that we will be able to run our transition as normal in 2022.   We would like to reassure you that we place a high importance on transition at Shirley Infants.  We believe that in order for children to settle into school feeling happy and safe, a strong transition is required.  Your little one will gently be prepared for school.  We will make contact with all of your pre-schools to collect the information on your little ones once they have been allocated a place at our school.  We will endeavour to carry out visits to the  pre-schools.

If your circumstances change, meaning that your child no longer requires a place at Shirley Infant School, it is essential that you inform either the School Office or the Local Authority (LA) immediately.

Please take a look at the website and help your little one get ready for school.

We look forward to meeting you all.
