In Shirley Schools we believe in providing a history curriculum which inspires our children to want to know more about the past. Children become curious and ask important, thought-provoking questions. We encourage our pupils to imaginatively interpret the past through the use of sources and artefacts. We inspire our children to learn from the past to build towards a better future.
Shirley Geographers understand what it means to live in a port city and the role it has in their lives, and globally. They develop a fascination of the world through the exploration of their own, and contrasting, environments. They explore how the world is shaped by physical aspects around them and how humans interact and impact it. Shirley Geographers are able to draw their own conclusions from fieldwork and have a true understanding of how their own impact can affect and change the world around them.
|Computing||At Shirley Infant School we strive to build a community of pupils who are competent, confident users of ICT and are knowledgeable about emerging technologies. Children become aware of their responsibility when using technology as well as exploring the risks through fictional stories. As a result, they are given the tools they need to develop their resilience and know what to do to keep themselves safe. We understand the need to equip all learners with the experiences and skills of ICT to prepare them for a rapidly changing technological world.||Design and Technology||
In Shirley Schools children foremost have the opportunity to implement their own ideas into their DT learning. Children are given opportunities to expand their understanding of skills and techniques, growing in confident to create their own design and understanding the importance it fulfilling a purpose. They are encouraged to question and adapt at any opportunity always keeping the purpose in mind. They explore, investigate, design, edit and evaluate to produce something of their very own.
